USING RETAIL TO CONNECT CONSUMER TO COMMUNITY

Augmented reality in-store experiences for Adidas at JD Sports

In a partnership with JD Sports, Adidas wanted to create an interactive experience within the retail space. Using augmented reality within the JD Sports app, we created concepts that would connect the consumer deeper to the product and the communities which inspired them. The experiences focused on product pairings and recommendations, personal customization, and New York City neighborhood discovery.

Concept 1: Product Pairings

We wanted to blend the ease of online shopping and access to information with the tactile gratification of in-store shopping. Holding your phone up to the shoe wall and focusing one shoe within the selection frame would populate customer reviews and more detailed product information. Based on shoe selections, suggested products would also populate for outfit pairings, taking the costumer further into the store.

Concept 2: Neighborhood Discovery

Select products for the launch will be inspired by the five New York City boroughs. When shopping, customers will be prompted to use the app to hover over select outfits. Outfits will be tied to a specific NYC neighborhood and when selected, will populate recommended destinations (bars, restaurants, activities) to discover more of the communities around them.

Concept 3: Shoe Customization

Knowing many of the customers would be visitors in the city, we wanted to create an opportunity for them to bring a piece of NYC with them back home. Within the store there would be an area set up for shoe customization. Customers could access the customization area on the JD Sports app and find inspiration for how they could customize their shoes. Using augmented reality they could choose a shoe, focus on their feet, and preview what their potential shoe could look like on.

Concept 4: Targeted Discount

Using the data from the app and geolocating their position in the store, customers would receive targeted discounts. As they approach the checkout counter a notification will pop up within their app relevant to a product they had used the app to interact with while shopping.
